The laptop completely broke down and it was "unfixable" by Dell. Dell is replacing it with an Alienware m17x. Specs haven't been decided yet, but I'd have to imagine it's way better than what I had.

Yeah with out a doubt, the M17x is far far far far better than a M1710.

Let us know the specs when you recieve it

Congrats your one of the lucky ones

Who did you talk to get the replacement laptop? Did you call dell tech support? How many times did you call or contact them to get the replacement? How many problems you had with the m1710 before they gave you the replacement?

Online tech support
talked to tech support 1 time, and then they sent me an empty box
I shipped the broken laptop back to them
a week later, I talked to online tech support and was told I would be getting a replacement since it wasn't fixable
a couple of days later I was told I would be getting an Alienware m17x

This was the only time I've had a problem with it and I'm getting it replaced.

+1

but what happens with me i get attached to things and can not let stuff go

but on the other hand, if i got offered a m17x, i would get over the attachment to my e1705

ps - in all honesty , my e1705 has being rock solid since day one, hence thats why it got a refreshen'up and im happy to keep it for another couple of years as my 'work' (surf the net)computer

anyway, i think a m17x is a good trade, wd

Yep it is a good trade, especially since they iron out the issue with the 1st revision

decent config there,

M17x is an easy upgrade as well if you decide to put a faster CPU and/or add a seconf GPU

just bear in mind if you decide to add a second GPU you need the kit which includes the crossfire cable, Fan, and the 240 watt power supply.

I think you would be fine with the single 5870 GPU.

There seem to be issues with crossfire at the moment any ways.

You will love the RGB LED Display

again congrats
