VHS to DVD VCD CD ?

Can someone please help me with a walk through on how to put VHS on to some kind of disk?
I have a 8887 with a DVD burner and a second CD ROM.
A step by step would be very nice. What type of soft ware to use all of the basics would really help me!
Thanks for any and all help.

Since you are new to video encoding, use DrDivx. It is all point and click and you get good quality divx. This is an easy method but only useful if you are going to watch it on another computer or Divx/dvd player.

Adobe Premiere is good but real expensive and you also need alot of disk space.

Before I go any further. Does the 8887 have a tuner so you can plug the vcr into it? This will help with choosing the type of application to use so you can get the right quality clip to write to DVD.

I used to use a Dazzle Hollywood A/D converter but now I use my DV camera for that function. Using a piece of hardware to do the A/D conversion really speeds up the encoding time on your system.

I use the following setup:

1. A VHS player + SCART converter -> audio & video + 3 appropriate cables
2. An analog->Digital converter (actually using my video camera for that, it's good enough to have a real time converter) + a firewire cable to the computer
3. A video capturing & editing software (I'm using Adobe Premiere 6.5)
4. An encoding software (I'm using Adobe MPEG encoder)
5. For DVDs, a DVD authoring software (I'm using DVD Lab)

That should pretty much do it. You may also need Adobe Photoshop and Audition (or equivalents), if you want to draw custom DVD menus or make improvements to sound tracks. For casual use, they are not needed.

Cheers,

Yes the 8887 has a TV tuner in it.
I want to thank both of you for the Info. I will follow up on both and see how I come out in the end. All I am trying to do is backup home vhs tapes that are not getting younger!!
Thanks again

???????? huh?????

well get an rca audio cable..... one one side it should have a connector that goes into ur sound card and on the other side it should have 2 connectors which goes into to ur AUX IN ( if ur tape deck has it ) ..... and then get a software to record the audio..
