Help set mobo to AHCI mode.. no option in BIOS ?

Thanks for taking a look.. I purchased a notebook from Ibuypower and I've put an SSD in it. I can't TRIM or use the SSD to it's extent without running in AHCI mode, currently my laptop is in IDE...

The bios is an InsydeH20, it's a Compal NBLB2 Motherboard, intel ID0044 chipset.

I absolutely NEED to set it to AHCI, and the motherboard advertises AHCI comparability on the compal site, so I'm thinking the advanced bios options are somehow locked?

Thanks for your time!

IDE mode meaning the hard drive controller is IDE? Or is it SATA interface?

SATA interface. As in from IDE mode to AHCI mode on the motherboard, AHCI supporting TRIM for SSD's. Currently it is defaulted to IDE mode, opposed to RAID or AHCI

Did this system come with XP at delivery? I would try contacting iBuypower and see what they say.

You mean windows XP ? No, it came with windows 7 home premium.. but like I said, I put my own SSD in it and have installed windows 7 ultimate x64. I've called ibuypower and they're useless

You can try this. Uninstall the Primary IDE Channel within the device manager, plug in a new Sata drive or SSD and see if somehow it forced the system to use AHCI instead.

Other than that, iBuypower must give you some support about the BIOS change. What exactly is the model of your notebook?

What exactly do you mean by uninstalling the ide channel? How would I go about doing that, there's the option of uninstalling the drive, but I would ultimately need to set my bios to AHCI..

It's the cz-batallion 101

I was hoping that with a new Sata drive, after removing the Disk controller, the BIOS would revert to AHCI somehow.

Anyway try Ctrl+Alt+Esc at start up and see if you can into the BIOS advanced mode. I still think ultimately iBuypower is responsible for documentation regarding this.

Ctrl+alt+esc does nothing

I am stumped ... I could not find any references to these Battalion, was hoping to cross them with some other models

can you escalate with iBuypower support? write them a nasty letter per example?

I called again and got the same guy, I'm looking for a tech support email right now. I've also made a post on their forums..

Based on what this BIOS gives me, there has to be an advanced bios, it is so basic it kills me. There are no cpu config or power settings. All that's available is boot priority and quick boot.

Yeah, that is kinda lame for a BIOS setup management. Pound on them and let us know how it turns out for you. In the mean time I hope other members can see this and chip in with some hints and tips.

Thanks. I would think that someone else would be in the same boat as I.. Trim is absolutely essential and there is no reason to have IDE running these days..

Thanks man.

Agreeing with you on the IDE part. It defeats the whole purpose of fast drive access nowadays. Good luck,

Try disabling the ATA channels?

i've got the same notebook also but i ordered mine with an SSD from the start so i'm assuming they configured with AHCI active. doing the DisableDeleteNotify query from the command prompt = 0 so that tells me it's set... but still.

what i want into the advance BIOS settings for is to flash the BIOS.  i'm running V.03 and according to the Compal support site, V.07 is available.  since SSDs were fairly new at the time, you KNOW they weren't using the full speed available.  also, i just swapped out my intel 40 gig SSD  with a Corsair Force GT 120 drive so i wanted to ensure the mobo can see all the space available, take full advantage and not just show me pretty numbers :(

eventually, i would like to max out the RAM too.  only running half of what the manual says the mobo can handle.  where's my settings for that?

this is one lame BIOS.
