Problems in Word 2010/chinese characters

Thread Starter
I have Word 2010 (trial version) installed on a new Asus G73J laptop.
Word spontaneously changes view and zoom settings. It's conceivable I'm inadvertently hitting keys and invoking keyboard shortcuts, but I doubt it. Sometimes the program switches to a six page view. More often it just changes the zoom setting. Sometimes an open window in Word spontaneously closes. Thank heavens the program seems to save changes when that happens.
I think the issue arises either when I'm typing or when I first place my hands on the keyboard.
A possibly related problem is that the computer would on occasion spontaneously switch to Asian characters. A small box would appear with those characters, and then they'd replace the English letters as I typed. This happened in Word and in Thunderbird. I took care of that issue by removing the Chinese character sets. But something was obviously producing the change in character sets -- perhaps the same thing that's wreaking havoc with my Word windows, page and zoom settings.
Word always responds to commands changing the view or zoom setting back.
I've using Word since the days of DOS, and have Word 2003 and 2007 on other computers. Never seen anything like this.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Sheldon

Uninstall and reinstall won't help? Don't use Office 2010 myself so I can't say much, but I have no issue with Office 2007 either.

cheers ...

I very rarely use word and when I do I don't have a problem. What are you using it mainly for? I'd probably do away with word and go with open office or google docs. There's a ton of them out there. Notepad++ is a great notepad alternative.
