Long story short...I'm a complete idiot and need drivers for MX 6543 running xp...half of the ones on the gateway site do not work... In particular I need one for audio, video, sm bus controller, network controller, modem device on high def audio bus, mass storage controller, ethernet controller....any help would be appreciated....I don't want to die!

Thanking you in advance!

You would need to mix up drivers from other MX6xxx models. We have some threads here in the section that would give you a few drivers - search for "Gateway MX XP driver" per example

This gateway site I presume... All the drivers are there and should work for that model, if not they should give you an idea what to google....

Chipset - AMD chipset drivers
Video - ATI Radeon Xpress 1150
Sound - SigmaTel Audio Driver version: 5.10.5082.0
(and get the right Sigmatel driver - loads out there that won't work)
SMBUS driver - good old ATI, this one is a right screw up and may take a bit to find (if the one doen't work in the gateway link)...
Wifi - Broadcomm by the looks of things...
Lan - Marvell usually on Gateway...

And get all the other stuff like the touchpad, card reader and hotkey stuff...

You rock MR. T!!

All is up and running!

Now if I can only figure out why windows loaded to my c drive which is only 6.82 gigs while the other 133 gigs of the hardrive (d sits empty other than the stuff I download...any quick fix there? C is already saying it's out of room

Use a partition tool and merge C: and D: or expand C: a bit more.

This is a great way to do it......

Download PartedMagic iso.... To burn the iso to a cd if it is in zip format, unzip to the hard drive so it is an iso file, then right click on it and choose open with, choose your CD burning program to do this, I use NERO... It will expand and burn the iso file to CD... Then put the CD in and boot from this, booting in to the parted magic operating system.. On the desktop choose partition editor (Gparted) and it will show you your partitions... Then resize them.....

I had the sound driver problem w/ my MX6453. I found the solution at HP (not Gateway), it was file sp47403.exe. Just googled it, and downloaded it from one of the hp.com sites.

Can you give us a link? According to my searches, this sp47403 is for an HP model graphic driver

1.  I had problems with all sound drivers I could find for my old MX6453 Gateway laptop.

2.  Until I first installed SP47403.exe (I know it is a graphics card driver).

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=US&swItem=ob-81999-1

I think this has some component that installs and allows the "PCI device" yellow problem in device manager,

to be solved.

3.  Anyway, after I did SP47403.exe,

I installed D00758-001-001.exe (Sigmatel 5.10.5185.0),

which is not a driver in the MX6453 (MX6450) gateway driver support area.

(This was recommended by someone else on the net.)

I found it at

http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/getFile.asp?id=21374&dscr=SigmaTel%20Audio%20DriverVersion:%205.10.5185.0&uid=341054626

4.  I was experimenting, and this is what finally worked for my MX6453.
