Intel just updates its pricing on CPU. The Santa Clara giant officially launches Core i7-970 along Core i5-760 and Core i7-870S. The new hexacore giant Santa Clara will obviously attract attention even if its price is of the opposite.

...Clocked at 3.2GHz, it has six and twelve cores using HyperThreading. In addition, there are 12MB of cache and a third level memory controller supporting DDR3 1066 MHz on three channels. ...

The bad news is the price of the Core i7-970, $845 excluding taxes for 1000 units, only slightly less than the $999 Core i7-980X. ...

Second new processor announced today, the Core i5-760 used atop the i5 line, is sold at $199. This quad-core (and quad-thread) processor is clocked at 2.8 GHz (3.33 GHz Turbo Boost). It has a L§ with 8 MB cache, a dual-channel DDR3 controller and a TDP of 95 watts. Finally, we discover the Core i7-870S, a quad-core processor (and octo-threaded) low power (its thermal envelope of 82 watts). It is clocked at 2.66 GHz (3.6 GHz Turbo Boost). It has 8 MB of L3 and a dual-channel DDR3 controller. This can be had for $338.

Intel also took the opportunity to lower the prices of several processors, first, the Core i7-870 drops from $555 to $285, which makes it even more attractive. The Core i3-540 drop from $137 to $117, the current price of the Core i3-530. The Core i5-650, Pentium E6600 and E5500 are losing $10 each - from $182 to $172, $87 to $77 and $77 to $67. ..

Now we just need to see this translate into mobile environment and more price drops in the near future for notebooks.
