Hello there - I am currently in Indonesia and have an HP G6000 laptop which is 2 and a half years old.
First, a couple of months ago the battery stopped charging. I thought it was part of the 'battery recall' that HP did - I checked through their website online, it was not among the faulty models listed by them. After this, the computer would die instantly if the laptop was unplugged.
Secondly, the other day, my power cable must have worn and it only worked if I twisted it at the correct angle, shutting off if I moved slightly out of place. I changed the power cable and it seemed to work fine.
Then, this morning, after using the laptop without a problem last night, I came to turn it on and, after pressing the 'On' button, it lights up for a second, then goes off and fails to boot. The power cable is working fine and connected properly (I have tested the power cable on another laptop - no probs, I have tested another power cable on my laptop - same thing - cuts out). Could this problem be due to a power surge? Indonesian electronics are rudimentary to say the least.
How could I get if fixed? Is it fried? I have also recently bought a cooling pad as overheating can be a problem here and have been using it every time I use the computer.
Any & all advice would be much appreciated. Right now, other than the financial outlay, I'm more concerned about losing a year's worth of photos and various important career-related documents.
Thanks in advance,
Steve
