Funny, I could not track any recommendations from anywhere. You might be the 1st one to confirm yes or no

cheers ...

One way to find out, I guess, lol!

What brand should I go for? The same that shipped with it, or is there a better one? How's Crucial? Seems cheap but the specs look good

A little confused on the thread title- Do you have the m5550r3?

If so, it should take 4GB no problem and as long as you have a 64-bit OS it will recognize all 4GB. As for brands, I've used Crucial and have it currently installed on my even older m5500r1 and it's still going strong after 4.5 years.

Yes, I have the m5500i-r3. Good to know Crucial is ok with it. I've seen some dodgy RAM out there with my old IBM that even though on paper was right specs, just wouldn't work with the thinkpad.

I thought 32 bit Windows recognized up to 4GB but not more than 4 GB? I've configured hundreds of W2K3 Server machines with 4GB RAM using the 32-bit version.

Windows XP, Vista, and 7 32-bit will only recognize up to 3.2GB of RAM.

It will use 4gb of ram. A little trick with the Unuse Ram. Setup a Ramdisk. Then use it Firefox Profile or Internet explorer Temp Files. It will help speed up Internet programs some.

Apparently I'll need to update to 2.07W BIOS? Where can I find it? I did see it here but the download link is dead

Unfortunately I don't have the r3's BIOS- I've got the m5500 r1 and my bios only goes to 2.03. I'll see if I can't come across it for you however...
