Hello everyone, Im so glad I found this forum... Here is my problem:
A few days ago, as you may already guessed from the title, my laptop just shut down and since then every time I try to start it, it stays on for about 5-6 secs and shuts down again. Sometimes it gets to the Windows XP logo for a sec or two, other times goes dead before it. My girlfriend has the exact same model, so by switching parts I know it isnt the power, neither the battery, the RAM sticks, nor the hard drive. There are two other possibilities: either the motherboard, or a BIOS virus.
The reason I assume it could be a BIOS virus is because two days before the crash I had problems with a nasty virus called AV Security Suite, twice. I got rid of it with a Removal Tool, designed to delete it, which I found on the Internet. Ive been reading like crazy for the past several days, and saw in one article that many BIOS viruses show up as fake antivirus programs...
So, what I'd like to do is to flash the BIOS for Aspire 4520 and see what will happen. However, there are two problems:
1. I cant get to BIOS boot options to change them
2. I couldn't find any tutorial how to flash the BIOS for 4520 ("3632.zip", downloaded from Acer's website), and I am particularly interested in how to do it with a bootable USB flash drive. I found a video on Youtube "Creating a bootable flash drive & flashing bios via USB flash (Acer Aspire One)", but there the guy talks about flashing a .bat file. However, 3632.zip does not include any .bat files... All files included in this zip are listed right here. And I am completely lost.
If you know how to flash this particular BIOS, please give me step by step instructions because I want to try and see if this will fix the laptop. Also, if you have any other helpful suggestions, I'd really appreciated it.
Thank you. Cheers
