Itunes Syncing

I have a Gateway P 7801 u FX Vista 64 bit and cannot sync my apps in itunes to my itouch. when i try to sync , i get various messages, "will not sync due to invalid signature", "failed to sync error code 0XE000004. I have gone through every troubleshooting tip from apple. If i connect my itouch to my desktop with Win XP i have no problem. It seems that its a problem with Vista 64 bit. Any ideas.?? Regards, BD

I can't seem to duplicate your issue having pretty much the same comp. But then I upgrade mine to Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.

Try re-installing iTunes with latest version 9.2.1 (64-bit)?

Hi, I have reinstalled itunes 3 times, and updated to 9.2.1. When i went to the Apple site to download the 64 bit version, it said to download the 64bit installer, however i could not find the installer, so is it separate or integral to the program?? Also, I have looked for the error code but can't find what it means. I found this site with 5 steps i tried but still no joy. Here's the link http://coderjournal.com/2007/03/appl...nstall-itunes/

Ok, I downloaded 9.2.1 and it's trying to install in C:\Program Files(x86)\itunes\
Shouldn't it be installing in just the Program File folder not the x86 folder???

Correct. It is on my 64-bit systems as well. I believe that W7 will put everything under (x86) if the app is not being going via MS.

Ok, I installed it in C:\Program Files(x86)\itunes\ and it still didn't work. I get the same error message i have been getting all along. In addition i have been getting a popup that says that i changed some settings, and it asks me to accept them. I didn't change any settings!!! Tonight i will delete itunes AGAIN, and try to reinstall just in the programs folder, not the x86 program folder. This is bordering on the ridiculus.
Thanks for your help. Regards, BD

I would also try to uncheck every single automatic sysnc or update from iTunes then try to sync the apps one app at a time. Just to figure out where it stops.

The errors you have are in the same bucket as "not enough permission" to perform the activity.

qhn, i don't have any automatic sync or updates checked. Also, I don't know how to resolve a "permission" problem, i am just a customer not a computer tech so i don't do DOS and i don't play around in the registry. Right now i am looking at possible com port problems with itunes, but not sure how to resolve that, also it could be my AVG, but don't think so, as i can download the apps into itunes, i just cant sync them. Having looked around for more then two weeks now, i find that there are host of possible solutions from Apple, Microsoft and the forums, the problem is they just tell me the possible solution, not how to implement it. Yes! i updated all software. Some of the suggestions are to ensure ports 80, and 443 are open and can access the following servers, phobos.apple.com, albert.apple.com, gs.apple.com. I am not sure how to do that, and not sure why that would stop the itouch from syncing.? Another suggestion from microsoft answers is, You may run the fix it tool from the below link and check If it resolves the issues. Link: How to determine and to recover from Winsock2 corruption in Windows Server 2003, in Windows XP, and in Windows Vista:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/811259. But i don't know what this does and how to emplement this, does it run automatically.??? Regards, BD

Let's take on the suggestion from Microsoft, but not with their too long too read ding. Try this:

- open up a command line. Type in "cmd" (no "") in the search field, and right click on the entry when it is being found and run it in administration mode. A "DOS" boy will open for you

- enter these 2 lines at the prompt, one after another and wait until it is done after each entry.

netsh winsock reset catalog

netsh int ip reset reset.log hit

- restart your comp and try the sync again

I had the same issue - replace the cable between ipod and PC unfortunately with an expensive Apple one and it should solve the problem... £14.99 for and ipod cable is a ripoff... Generics cost about £2 on amazon, but can throw out issues like this....

^^Why would it work under certain OS and not with other though? But I would not be surprised that a simple cable would do the trick.

I have exactly the same problem with my Iphone... I have also a choice of 5 apple cables and 2 non-apple generic cables.... All charge the phone, all are fine with XP.. But use vista 64bit to sync apps not tunes and it will chuck up an error about lost sync, yet it will update the phones firmware no problem at all... Change to any apple cable and the problem with app syncing has gone....

Good to know Mr T. Luckily I never use anything but Apple accessories so far - $$$ though - they know how to make money from the consumers these Applers

All, thanks for your patience with this. I updated everything tried the winsock thing except when i plugged in "netsh int ip reset reset.log hit" it said it couldn't find the file. I don't have access to a new cable as i am currently in the Philippines and wont be back in Japan until 15 Aug. I have tried just about every solution that i come across, and i still get the same error code. I unfortunatly upgraded to OS4 and lost my wifi and one of the wallpapers. I really wonder how Apple gets away with the lack of support.... I think my next step is to just install Win 7 and hope that fixes it. Regards, BD
