Anyone driving an U460? I'm looking at it as an anniversary gift (no, not for myself), but can't find a red one.

Not even there... links to Lenovo, and only black/silver is available.

Why not try to contact them at the above site and ask them why the red option is not available even though it is advertised...at least you will know why

I did email them, 3 days ago. They haven't bothered to reply yet, I'm not holding my breath.

Well, then...

"Thank you for contacting Lenovo, the makers of ThinkPad and Think Centre products.

As I understand, you want to know when Lenovo IdeaPad U4600 (in Red color) will be launched. We apologize as we do not have the update. These decisions are taken by the “Research and Development Department”, and we do not get that information till the product is
launched.

No red, but plum!

So now Lenovo's got a "midnight plum" u460. Whereas the black U460 has a textured lid, the plum one appears to be a solid color. Still no sign of a red one.

In any event, I did order one and received it last week. Unfortunately it would power down soon after being turned on, so much so that it took 5-6 attempts before we could create a new user, because it kept shutting down before we finished typing the name, etc. So, it went back (RMA return).

In the short time we had it, it seemed heavier than the advertised < 4 lb, definitely heavier than my T410s. I think this is because it had an 8-cell battery, however that's the only available battery at this time.

Also, Lenovo's "Home & Home Office" is run like a boutique operation. You pick you machine off the web-site, they build it and ship it from China, it goes through customs, etc. The (lack of) availability of machines and inability to customize hardware contributes to this impression also. A far cry from Dell.
