new life to an old area-51 m5750 - Page 2

I temporarily replaced my x1800 with an x1800 from ebay. I still haven't found a great way to solve the heatsink issue to mount it to the 3650. Was working great for about a week until my power supply blew. I bought a new AC adapter but it didn't work. I'm not sure if the mobo is fried or not.

I'm very interested to see how this project is going. I also have a 5750 and would LOVE to upgrade it.

The power supply blew because of the new x1800? or you were running it with the 3650 not secured?

Yeah, it blew with the perfectly-secured x1800

ouch. Hmmm. That sucks if the mobos gone. I wanted to see if it were possible using the 3650.

Regarding cleaning system. I have very stable system and well runing 2x200gb Travelstars in Raid0 hd's. The reason i wanna upgrade is so i can play some latest games on higher res with more details. My x1900 has some issues with running games at all. And I Am pretty sure its an GPU failure after several fresh OS installation - from WinXp to Win7 Ultimate. On top of that tried over 10 drivers. Everything is smoth and nice up untill when i start any 3D game. Emulators is exception. And while I Am thinking about upgrading GPU why not go all the way and upgrade CPU .
Even i cant run alot of games, and as for mobility x1900 drivers The best one I have yet found is the one from Windows Update.

The m5790 CPU is bottlenecked, and outdated. Ill be replacing my system soon.

As for the other issues:

the m5750 and m5790 are almost identical in every aspect

My 5790 runs 4GB ram (but only 3.25 is actually used by the board due to its limitation)

I have the 1.19w bios that will allow the m5750/m5790 to use 4GB ram ( there is a thread I have somewhere here for it)

make sure you remove any bios passwords before flashing the 1.19w, and dont flash your system if you are not running either the 5750 or 5790

Interesting thread, didn't know about any BIOS upgrades after the 119W.

Could you please find that thread that will allow me to go with full 4gb!?

Lately i'ven been working on a laptop installing windows 7 64bit.
And i was wondering dose anybody had or have 5750/5790 running on Win7 64bit ?
Is there any increase of performance or anything like that?

There is one more thing. I've been experiencing some issues with my 5790 when i run games. I get pixes and when i reboot the system i see something like starts on the sky on the logo screen. Thy blink. I guess it might be overheating of the thermal paste that dried out on the GPU. Dose anybody have or seen a tutorial on how to take apart the unit. I Am thinking of cleaning it of dust entirely and add some thermal paste. This might solve the issue, or not? I would like to bring this unit back to life. I Am thinking of getting new Keyboard and install a Bluray into it.

And most of my 5-6 years old machines are now running under Windows 7 64-bit

Not sure about running faster, but it sure runs much more stable.

Hm, dose the Windows 7 automatically downloads the drivers or i will have to go through the net of searching 64bit drivers?

You should be able to get most, if not all, drivers from MS database - just run Windows updates.

I know this question isn't really about the M5750 but rather it's FSC equivalent, the XI 1526... I am looking into getting a used one where the three usb ports on the right side are broken(physically distorted by force) and I'm desperately trying to find any sort of information as to how to get to the small board they are mounted on without wrecking anything in the process, so I figure since the M5750 and the XI 1526 share the uniwill P72 mobo and the board in question looks the same they would be assembled the same way, anyone got any pictures of how to disassemble the thing?

Can you use the video on top of the page as reference?

I've already watched that video twice today and while it's in the general area of where the board is situated it doesn't show how to remove the "chassis" where it sits, it's on the right side of the laptop, a slim board with three mounting holes and two connectors, one which seems to be for a ribbon cable(usb and firewire data I presume) and one for a fan-power style connector(power supply I presume), the image I found at a spareparts supplier doesn't quite tell the story how it fits in there and how much one would have to disassemble(or how) to get at it... I probably will have to wait until I get my hands on it, once I get the board out of there it will be no sweat to de-solder the wrecked connectors and substitute them with intact ones from another dead laptop motherboard... and if that can't be done I'll just "steal" 5V power from the rail on the board to feed my laptop stand's aux cooling fan...

Looked pretty good and straightforward to me though - you might have to take the board off the casing all together (bottom screws off, screen assembly off, keyboard off, then it just a matter of separating the top and bottom casing - latches)

Yeah, I suppose so
Not to be rude, but that's the single USB with power connector on the left side of the laptop chassis... I'll investigate further once I have the laptop here and I'll take a couple of shots during the process so that others might have use of my woes

Cool - taking some pics along the process is always good. Have fun tinkering.
