new life to an old area-51 m5750 - Page 3

Will try, I'm getting the Amilo as an "upgrade" to my Aspire 5113Wlmi(I'm getting old and want a bigger screen), performance should be about the same which is quite ok running Linux Mint 10 on it. I could have had that performance yesterday unless fate would have had it otherwise... Recieved a HP Pavillion DV9700, it booted up nicely, connected to my wireless network and then the screen died, a reboot revealed a white line across the screen and a garbled hp logo = toasted gpu and a nearly wrecked weekend, good though for me that the guy who sold it had the amilo aswell and will take the dead crap back...

Can't beat that if you are able to return broken merchandise. Too bad, since the DV9700 is a good machine.

Also your BIOS must be able to support this 9600 GPU, was it an option for this model ?

the M5790 is old, If I am not running on a cooler I get pixelation just using the browser.

Most notebooks are lucky to get 3+ years, the m5790 runs hot, I cant even game with mine really anymore as even with a cooler it cant handle the heat from the GPU/CPU

What you need to do is replace the entire heatsink, and thermal paste, and get a very good chiller

Replacement parts and kits for the m5790 (e.g., battery, x1800 card, heatsinks, lcd screens, etc)

Thy blink. I guess it might be overheating of the thermal paste that dried out on the GPU. Dose anybody have or seen a tutorial on how to take apart the unit. I Am thinking of cleaning it of dust entirely and add some thermal paste. This might solve the issue, or not? I would like to bring this unit back to life. I Am thinking of getting new Keyboard and install a Bluray into it.

Thanks alot, that might help.
I have encountered a new problem. I moved to Windows 7 64Bit and i have VGA driver problem. The Windows Update wont detect any new drivers related to the system. I have downloaded Chipset, Wifi. Still having problem finding Realtek driver that will fully support volume control on the side and ATI driver. I went to AMD support and i got nothing. No Vista 64 nor Windows 7 driver available. At this moment I Am stuck with Standard VGA Card driver provided my Win7 (i guess)
I try to use Driver Genius but no luck. I will be searching for next day or so, i hope any of you could help me here...

I have all the x64 drivers for the 5750/5790 and x1900, run windows update to get the newest ATI GPU driver after installing this one (so it will detect)

I will upload driver package (including sata/raid)

package includes x86/x64 drivers for XP/Vista (vista drivers may or may not work with Win 7), but the sata/raid will work with all. The ati driver is actually the Amilo driver (make sure you upgrade it via Windows Update)

note- Only the drivers that are not automatically installed via Update are included

Also you can force the vista driver install via device manager, once it allows the system to detect the card, you can then update via Windows update

file is too big for uploading here (370MB), here is a download link from my site:

Impressive. Back up, back up and back up before you do anything with BIOS. Don't know much about this model to tell you one way or the other

I would expect that before you run the BIOS update it should give you an option to back up current BIOS rom

guys can you tell me how to modify heatsink?
And guys dou know what is the SATA version onthis machine?
for me hwinfo shows that in RAID 0 there is SATA I only?? or itjust depends of HDDs ?
thnx
Take a look at the modding guide section you might find some tips in modifying heatsink or at least some idea. Go for SATA II if you can, it will always throttle down if it cannot support it, SATA III might be too much. Take pics and share with us.
