Any way to trick the E1705 into thinking im using a genuine power adapter?

So yea, basically my old Dell power adapter failed after 2 years usage. However I had an old Clevo adapter lying around, it has 120W maximum power, and deliveres 20V.

So I cut the cable of my old dell adapter, did some soldering and voilá now I've got a new power adapter.

HOWEVER, Dell seems to have some kind of BIOS blocking that doesn't let you use the system at full power with an unknown poweradapter.

So, is there any way to bypass this?

Bonus question: How exactly does the machine recognize that it's a genuine adapter?

well sir. for 20 bucks on ebay, you can get any type of standard dell a/c adapter. 100w, 110w, 130w. whatever you want sir. a little less awesome than d.y.i. fixes but thats just a suggestion

There actually hand shaking between the laptop and the Power adaptor.

So go get your self a proper Dell adaptor. it is the only way it will work for you.

There is a small component inside laptop charger who identify charger to laptop something like
but is need for one or two resistors and this one to add to new charger to make them compatible.
This signal from charger to laptop came through middle pin of charger connector.

Hm, interesting...do you know what kind of signal it is? Is it a frequency wave, or just a static voltage?

As i read some time ago is one-wire eprom.
Something like http://www.laptop-junction.com/toast...stery-revealed

This is a little different.
Few months ago I did something like this for 3 Dell's with broken charger.I take parts from damaged charger and inserted into "no name" charger.
In that case was easy one pin GND one pin through resistor to + charger and one pin through resistor to central pin of charger connector.

If you can post few pics of charger board maybe I can help you.Since your Clevo charger seems to be almost enough.
But is more recommended to buy a original part as replacement.
