ASUS G1s-A1 random restarting and video issues.

My problem is really hard to explain as it is fairly inconsistent.

Basically when I start up my laptop for the first time in awhile it boots fine, but after running it for about 3 minutes or so, it automatically reboots on me and a bunch of lines appear on my screen. I can proceed to run Windows again, but now I have a ton of green vertical lines and my graphics are in many funky colors. It continues to do this each time I restart it until I give it a rest for awhile, but then it starts doing it again.

When this first started happening I was running Windows Vista and it wouldn't even let me enter the login screen. It would just keep rebooting over and over again (with the green lines and messed up graphics) just before it entered the login screen, so I threw Windows 7 on to see if it remedied the problem and the only thing that got fixed is now I can login, but my graphics still are messed up and occasionally it reboots on me as mentioned above.

Any ideas how I could troubleshoot this? I am thinking it's either my graphics card or my hard drive.

Plug in an external monitor and see if any improvements.

I had identical symptoms when my laptop graphics card was overheating.

In my case a temporary cure was to have the laptop opened up and air-dusted but this only cured the problem for a month at best.

The retailer tried to blame me for having a dusty home ?!?!

Eventually got a refund.

Opened up PC and cleaned out vid card-- it was a bit dusty.

The computer won't even login now. It just restarts over and over again before it gets to login screen so I can't get an image up on my external display.

Hard drive issue?

My Warranty is up. Should I bother doing an RMA?

Try reseating the ram, hard drive and the vid card again

These laptops shipped with defected Nvidia gpus. I not sure where you are located or what your circumstances are but Asus is obligated to repair or replace the notebook at no cost to you. Even out of warranty.

You are having the same exact symptoms i had right before my screen went black. RMAd the first time and they repaired for free. It died within a week. Sent it back and they are sending me a G73 as a replacement after many phone calls and legal counsel. Google Nvidia defect and vist nvidiadefect.com

If your purchase was anything like mine you spent close to 2,000$ for a computer with a manufacturing flaw. It should last more than two years.
