M17x much heavier than Precision M6500?

The Precision M6500 and Alienware M17x have very similar specs, or at least can be configured to similar specs. But according to specs sheets, the Alienware weighs "starting at 11.68 lbs", while the M6500 weighs "starting at 8.4 lbs".

What makes the Alienware so much heavier?

Should be thicker, also does the basic M6500 have anodized aluminum or just the covet version? That could be a big difference.
