wifi limited access problem gateway w340ua

My notebook is very tempermental (gateway w340ua) connecting to a wifi spot. At my home I can get it to connect if I am within a few feet of the modem, and then walk away and it will stay connected for awhile. Then goes to limited access, and I have to disconnect and walk over to the modem with it and reconnect. Everyone else's computer connects just fine with the wep key, including ipods etc. At my girlfriends house, it just connects limited access and thats it, no matter where I am. Airports, hotels forget it, in these places my ipod connects just fine. Always connects when plugged into a modem. Is driving me crazy! I really like this computer except for this! help!

How many wireless managers do you have in this comp? Check to let Windows Wireless Service managing the wireless connection?

Your OS? Driver up to date?

Clear your Internet cache from Internet Explorer properties (all your cookies and temp files)... Then download winsockfix and run it, it runs fine on vista, but do the right click and 'run as administrator'... It should clear any software issues... If it keeps it up, replace the wireless card, it is failing... Get an Intel card (most compatible) like a 2200bg, 3495 or a 5100... If you don't fancy tinkering inside, get an express card like a belkin F5D8073 or a USB device like this Edimax ......
