Acer aspire hard drive-C partition full

Thread Starter
Hi, I have a Acer aspire and the hard drive-C partition is full while D partition is 99% empty. Any suggestions as to what would be the easiest way to solve this -problem? thanks (running XP)

Is there anything that you are saving in particular that has filled up the C drive...If they are files/photos, have you considered burning them to CDs/DVD (if you have a burner) (you didnt mention a model)

Acer, Sony and some others tend to put two partitions on the hard drive, c for the operating system and d for storage... For some unknown reason they make both partitions the same size!!!!.. Anyhow, if you are running Vista, (you can do this in win7, but I have not tried it in XP) go to Control Panel, Administrative tools and Computer Management.. Go into storage and select the empty partition... Right click and choose delete... Once that is done, right click on the C partition and choose expand and it should fill the empty space, leaving you with one partition...

Parted Magic (ISO) can assist you in shrinking and expanding partitions. Look at our Software Section, there are links to free partition tools there.

cheers ...

Got to be careful with Parted Magic (Gparted) and Vista when resizing, can cause boot problems... (yes I found out the hard way, but this was a help)....
