i looking at getting a laptop for my graphic design course im statring in september. after weeks ive whittled it down to these two as they seem to present everything id.

the difference seem quite clear, the toshiba offers what i need and is cheaper, and the sony is better but more expencive.

toshiba:
appx£550
AMD phenom II triple core (1.8GHz, 3600MHz, 1.5MB)
4GB RAM
500GB hardrive
ATI mobility radeon HD 5145
full keyboard, with numeric
15.6" screen

Sony:
£617
Intel core i3-330M (2.13GHz, 3MB)
4Gb Ram
500GB hardrive
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470
full keyboard with numeric
15.5" screen

my purse says go with the toshiba, but then i wonder if its worth spending the extra money for the higher spec sony. id be using it for photoshop, illustrator etc and everyday laptopping such as internet, music, movies

Spec wise the Sony model is better (wish it could have a Core i5 instead of the i3). Only 60 quids extra - I'd go for the Sony.

cheers ...

yeah £60 isnt bad, its just that its about £150 from what id been originally been looking at at £450ish ^^
but then again maybe i was being a little unrealisitic in hoping to find a realiable brand of laptop with 4GB and a decent graphics card
cheers

Price will come down more once the get-back to school period passes. Or you can wait until around November-ish when old models are being pushed to make room for newer models.

cheers ...

Check with the Uni, most of the times they have some special arrangements with manufacturers for some good prices for students. If it is only for the period of learning, this is where I would go.

cheers ...
