are all laptop hard drives the same size?

Very much so. Most of them. Some manufacturers decide once in a while to throw in a curve on some of their models.

most laptop hard drives are 9.5 mm high

There are a few that are 12 mm, but very few laptops can hold them

So be sure you get the proper hieght
