Gateway 7422GX repair project

I have an older Gateway 7422GX with a burnt-out dc jack. It is not a computer I use (I have newer ones), but a bit of a side project. I thought I'd see about repairing the dc jack, which is faulty. However, I can't for the life of me figure out how to remove the case. I have removed all the screws from the back and disconnected everything, but still it won't come off. I know there must be something I'm missing. Anyone with instructions, please contact me.

Try using the information from this thread. Your model is very similar to the M68xx series.

Ok, call me dumb, but that takes me to a link to some gateway laptop service guides and not the one you mentioned?

You have to remove the screen and keyboard too... The screen wiill come off complete in it own case buy removing the front panel above the keyboard... This should give you access to the screen hinges and the keyboard screws (if any on the keyboard)... Undo the screen hinge screws and seperate the video connections once you have removed the keyboard... then you can start removing screws from beneath the keyboard tray...

I found a video illustrating this perfectly, but it was not for my exact model. I cannot for the life of me find such a panel on this unit.

It is not really that difficult but a little time consuming since you want to do a total break down to get the MB out. I did it here and on both my m6811 and 7422gx. If you really need some help I will take some time and make some pictures. Now if your DC jack is bured out was it a power overload? All of your work may be for naught and the machine does have a little age on it. (but it is a very good machine as mine are still in service). Reply back or send me a message and I will take some time to do a break down for you one weekend.

Any help you can give is appreciated. Photos would be really helpful. I am aware it may not be salvageable but figured what would it hurt to try. Not sure about the power overload question. The jack itself is lose. You can physically wiggle the cord and it moves back and forth. Used to, I could mash the plug in tight and it would come on, but eventually it stopped working entirely. I have passed the machine itself along to my brother, who is more guru than I, and he works on it during his spare time. But I do know he was unsure about putting it back together. Again, any help you can send is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Sorry for the delay. I have been consumed with work lately and have been too busy to pull up to my workbench. Since you have passed it to your brother, if you still want me to tear down a machine. send me a private message this week. I will check back on the forum by the weekend and go from there.

Thanks,

Eunix
