shutdown \ overheating when playing heavy games

hey ,,
I have a laptop
acer aspire 5745G
330M , core i5 , 2.26 ghz , 4 gb ram

when i am playing heavy games like (GTA IV , Crysis : Warhead , Blur , Red Alert 3 ... and so on)
the Gpu heats quickly and the laptop shutsdown after a short while , and I can hear the fan running too fast .

the strange in that , Call Of Duty : modern wardare 2 runs super perfect , all hight , and no shutdowns !
why ?

i bought it 1.5 month ago , and i can say "the dust" isn't a reason .

thank you

this is typical when playing games on a notebook. Other than venting your fans with compressed air, I suggest you call the manufacturer and ask if it has been a common problem or known issue. YOu may need to have your video card replaced.

Last time I heard something like that it was to do with the specific features implemented on the GPU.

For example I have experienced on BFBC 2 a large and sudden increase in fan noise and temperature when I select certain types of anti-aliasing.

A friend of mine has a laptop that goes into overdrive when anisotropic filtering is turned on. (a suprisingly modern card and just very low filtering)

I think it might is because if a certain feature is not implementented in the GPU circuitry then the CPU has to join in and then the whole system works much harder.

See if there is a setting in all the others that is not in COD2.

Just a thought. I would love to know the definite answer and would appreciate you posting/pm the solution if you get to the bottom of it.

Good luck,

John

Just out of curiosity, have you visited the games sites for patches or tips as on how to configure on different platforms?

cheers ...
