Help buying a new laptop

Hi,
I've been building my own desktop machines for a few years now, but now I want to purchase a laptop for the first time and there are a lot of things to consider, I figured.

I want a laptop that will be portable, but not too small because I like a large monitor.
I want to use it to watch HD movies and stuff, probably plug it into a TV with HDMI, and I also like to game every once in a while, so i figured a decent video card is necessary.
A pretty large hard drive, preferably 500gb+ although anything more than about 320gb could be fine.
4gb+ DDR3 memory.
Good quality and a good price. I don't need a high end machine, but certainly not a budget machine. I don't mind paying if it's necessary as I use this machine for work.

Thank you very much for your time!

You want to share your current desktop configuration and see if we can find something that would come close to what you expect?

And what price range are we looking at here?

price will be higher where i live but about 900~ on newegg.com i was thinking about Asus N61JQ-A1 although it's on the expensive side. I was trying to find something cheaper maybe.
my desktop is E6320 2GB DDR2 800 OCed to 3ghz 8800gts 320mb but it's old now.. about 3 years i think.
thanks

That Asus N61JQ-A1 is a good investment with around $1000, not sure if there are others with the same specs. And it sure outperforms your desktop

I will write a review as soon as i get one.
what do you say about
Acer Aspire 5741G
or MSI GE600?

Acer Aspire 5745G seems to have almost the same specs

it seems to me like I7 processors aren't bang/buck efficient.
How much do I lose in performace with the I5 line? and specifically these laptops. I think I don't need an expensive CPU as much as maybe a decent one with a decent video card and features.

If I read correctly the MSI GE600 comes with a core i5, the Aspire 5741G with Core i3. Of theses 2 I would take the MSI with its high screen resolution as well. And sure, i7 is top CPU performer but the i5 is not so far behind

And "I think I don't need an expensive CPU as much as maybe a decent one with a decent video card and features." is a good statement.

cheers ...
