Inspiron 6000 help: screen goes blank

wsup guys, I'm new to this board. I've already searched to see if people had similar issues like the one I'm dealing with and nothing seems to work for me so far. Basically, when I boot up my laptop, I see the Dell logo for a split second and the screen just goes blank. I hear the hard drive running, all the lights are flickering and seems to work fine. Also, the coloring seems to be off (red-ish/orange-ish) when I see the dell logo in the beginning. I've tried the whole battery drain routine, reformatted with win. xp pro (i had to anyways), and also took apart the screen to see if any cables were loose somehow, and the problem still remains the same. I can use an external monitor and it works fine but I want to be able to use the actual screen on the laptop. Do I just have to replace the screen itself? Any input would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

I would say either the screen inverter or the LCD itself is failing. Try the inverter first, it is cheap and easy to replace.
