S6120 Help Needed (AC Jack Related)

Hi Dears,

I have this laptop and its ac jack was causing issues, and now it (the power jack where the adapter's pin gets inserted) fell off. I have this small board with the power jack out of the laptop and it has only soldering points visible.

I am not sure what wire of the adapter must be connected to which point on that small board with the power jack.

In this picture

you can see them labelled as ABC (soldering points), if you could please identify how to connect them, i mean where the +ve terminal from the adapter and where the -ve terminal should go and which point can be excluded as there are three points.

this picture is bit different from the model i have another picture its something like this

oh yes about the adapter, i have removed its plug and wires are visible its co-axial wire and the internal wire is -ve and external one is positive.

CORRECT me if i am wrong.

If you could help, please!

Would it be better if you just get another power jack and solder the feet onto the board? This way you would not be worrying about which wire is which, besides the fact that the old jack can possibly be bad.

Cheers Mate!!

Well, man thanks for your post.

Firstly, i don't have that specific jack, nor can i obtain it readily as i am in a small town of Pakistan. Buying online is out of question. Only option is that someone coming from EU or US bringing it for me (will take time)

Secondly, even if i get it, the result will be same after few months.

So i have decided to hang out cables from that jack joints and attach a DC Plug and connect to the adapter via that plug.

hope you like the idea!!!!

I see. That is a brilliant idea, we need someone to split a jack open to look at the wiring then.

Can you make some sense from this site?

Yeah, thats a good website for buying jacks and other stuff online, unfortunately it has no information available about the polarity of the jacks used.

Anyway thanks for the effort.

I was hoping that you could use the physical layout of the jack to make some guesses at where the wires would go.

Yes, I tried, but as you know "common sense is not common at all"
Was unable to make sense out of this http://www.laptopsockets.co.uk/images1/dc3a.h9.jpg diagram. Thats the only diagram showing some details of the jack.

Confusion is due to the third prong of the jack!!!

I suspect I might damage my laptop by connecting it to the wrong adapter terminals.

Short of the schematic of the jack it is gonna be hard to decipher that pic. Can you spare €7 to €9? If yes, I can see if I can get someone to send the jack to you from here.

cheers ...
