It is a good move on the part of AMD to consolidate - in name that is - business units. Less confusing for consumers.

Agreed. Now they can stick to AMD ruining both markets.

I actually have no idea how either company is doing. I don't even look at AMD or Ati cards anymore.

AMD is doing quite well, when one considers that ATI is ahead of nVidia at the moment in sales.

Intel is still ahead as far as CPU concerns. But with the game now being shifted to CPU/GPU in one I believe that AMD would have an advantage.

Price war in the work. Responding to AMD silent price drop of its CPU few days back, Intel countered with a price drop of its own in some case (i7-950) as much as 48% discount.
