Installing Linux (Kubuntu) on m9700

Hey everyone,
i need to install kubuntu alongside my win xp on my m9700.
My problem is that i can't install it since it shuts itself down during the install process because the cpu is overheating.
The strange thing is: this only happens during the linux installation. I can run things like Stress Prime 2004 and other cpu stress tests just fine for minutes without the cpu getting anywhere near overheating. Idle temp in windows is 39°C. Idle temp in linux is 59°C and as soon as something uses the cpu the temperature rises constantly up until the system shuts down.
Any linux users here who can help?
I already tried installing sensors and it detects the temp sensor but not the fan i made sure that the fan is actually running, it is...

ok i tested knoppix and everything is fine, even burnK7 runs fine for minutes...
so it seems to somehow be related to kubuntu, maybe it doesn't recognize the fans correctly or something? or the temperature readings are just incorrect? any ideas?

Sounds like one of a couple possible problems, hard to tell for certain without running it on the computer...

One is a kernel module not loading or not being passed the correct options by the bootloader, one is lm_sensors or whatever is used nowadays isn't loading correctly, one is that power management is not being set up correctly, I am sure there are others that I can't think of right now.

I've found that power management on my laptop behaves a little differently depending on if I've suspended the laptop or not, before suspend the fan hardly comes on and the laptop runs hotter, if I suspend it and then resume the fan will run more often and the laptop stays cooler... I have no idea why but there are others experiencing the same behavior and as long as it works wink.gif
I'm running LMDE(Debian Testing) which works fine in all regards...
