Upgrade or new buy?

I've got a 3 year old Vostro 1500.

T7500 (2.2 Ghz)
2GB RAM
8600M GT

Having issues with it, mainly it is falling apart, one hinge is destroyed, running a bit slow, needing new power cable.

I have £400-500 to spend on a new laptop, but when looking what I could get for that money I am not overly excited.

Would you guys suggest abandoning this old dog (strip and sell the parts) and buy a new one, or keep it and do it up. To upgrade to 4GB RAM, fix hinge and new power cord would cost around £120.

I don't want to be throwing money at a dead horse.

Any input would be appreciated.
