Acer Aspire 5315 - BIOS/CMOS Reset

Hi, I have read about this problem many times and please be as helpful as possible and don't just say I need a new laptop or a very expensive motherboard repair.

My Acer Aspire 5315, which is around four years old and is running Windows 7 Home Premium decided to crash during a BIOS update at the 'Erasing & Writing' stage. The process did crash at 0.00%.

When I went to power the machine back on, it wouldn't.
Even when I plug in the battery charger the indication light for that won't even come on.

I had the battery tested with the appropriate tools and it is working fine.

I have read about doing a hard reset, which I have done many times. This does not work.

I also read about jumping/resetting the CMOS battery.
The only problem with this is that I do not know where the CMOS battery is. Would someone be as kind to give me some reference to where it is and how to go about getting to it then resetting.

Thanks in advance,
Paul Moscrop.

You might want to use another model for dis-assembly reference. We have the sticky here for service guides, take a look at it.

Sounded you had a bad flash, might want to search the net for Blind BIOS Flash and see if you can recover from there, not sure that resetting CMOS battery would help in this case.

cheers ...

Sign of Hope

The only sign of hope I have is when I plug the charger in and turn it on, eventually after some time if I press the power button the power on button flickers which must mean that it's not completely dead.

The battery light doesn't appear but electricity must be getting through.

Can anyone guide me through the Blind BIOS Flash procedure using a USB Memory Pen. Mine is 4GB and formatted using FAT32.

Cheers.

How Though?

The laptop won't boot up. As I said, the power light only flickers then goes back off.

How am I meant to do a blind flash?

I have took out all components from the motherboard (the external ones anyway) and gave them a clean/dust.

Cheers.

It sounds like you were doing your BIOS flash on battery power only...If this is the case, there are normally all kinds of warnings about doing BIOS flashes on battery, because if the battery suddenly runs out of power and the flash is not finished... all kinds of grief..same is when doing MS Updates where the laptop has to be rebooted..often times you see it going thru stage 1, stage 2, and finally stage 3, with warning of not turning off computer til its finished...run into grief with that too if the battery dies

My AC Adapter was plugged in at the time.
