I have worked on computers for a while and can't remember seeing this before. On my Acer 8930, I booted the computer and after POST, the screen went black with the cursor blinking at the upper left corner and going diagonally down the screen (two rows) were blocks or boxes. Some reboots have the boxes all showing just white and other times they are different colors with shapes and letters in them.
The BIOS shows the HDD, so I am not sure if this is a problem with the drivers of Win 7 or if this is a bad read arm, maybe a platter is not spinning? Anyone experience this and know the cause? I tried both bays with the same results. I will try putting the drive in an external housing and seeing if I can read the drive that way later this evening. I just want to know if I am in need of a new drive. Also, there was no noise or rattle from the HDD in the drive or when gently shaken.
