Hi,
Sorry for the old cleshayed thread. But I have not been keeping up with computers in the last 3-4 years and really have no idea of what is out there.

My dell M90 died after 3.5 years of service. The M90 very conveniently started have graphical issues a few months after my 3 yr dell extended warranty expired. In any case I need a new laptop to replace it. Now that I’m no longer in college and my job requires me to travel a lot within the US; I’d like to buy a laptop that is a little more travel friendly.

I would like to get a 15” (approx) laptop that can handle the new FPS games and movies. The primary purpose of this laptop is going to be entertainment during my layovers at the airports and short domestic flights. My budget for this laptop is $800 or less.

I need your suggestion as to which laptop will offer me the most bang for my buck.

Thank you in advance for your time.

The only 15" gaming machine that comes through my mind is the Alienware m15x. $800 will be a bit tight for any machines fitting your needs of gaming

Well i dont need a machine that will max out the game. Just one that will let me play on medium settings.

Also I am not oppose to buying used or refurb laptops.

thanx for the recomendation on the MSI; i have added it to my list of laptops for consideration.

Also i realize i originally asked for a 15" but i came across this 17" Acer Aspire 7741G that seems really nice. thought i'd run it by you.

Does doing to a 17" increase my chances of getting a higher performance machine for around $800? Also what is a good budget for a gaming laptop? Would increasing my budget for say $1000 provide me with a much higher spec machine?

The Acer in the link should give you smooth playing with DX10 games, newer DX11 games might be an issue.

And:
- NO, 17" notebooks are expensive by definition, you might get some good ones, but not in high performance with the $800

- YES, $1000 plus would give you more choices.

cheers ...
