the model ghn mentioned has worked in my 7811 for well over a year now, some of the actual burners are not that badly priced now either something like

I do remember in the earlier days there were alot of different firmwares on the ct-10n and and it was a crapshoot as to which firmware ver one was getting. Some of them would not work without anydvd running in the background. Ebay is going to be your best bet.
Also a very easy swap, probably the hardest part is installing the faceplate as the little locking tabs van break easily.
