Tried Google, etc, no luck finding anything except NHC....but not seeing NCH for linux or Windows 7 which I'm running on the AW.

Thanks

- For Linux, might work

- For Windows 7, try set always performance in power option?

cheers ...

NHC 2.0 Pre-Release 06 works under 7 if you run it under admin account.
Dunno in your case whether undervolting or clock adjustement works 100% correct, but I can provide you with the necessary acpi files to make the fan stay on full power via manual fan speed settings (3 settings available) The acpi script was written originally for a different Uniwill barebone, but I could adjust it to make it work with my PI 1556, which is the same build as your M5550-R3. If you provide me with extra info, I can make the required modifications for you and you can try out yourself.
Also keep your eyes peeled, as there is an upcoming new version of NHC specifically for 7 announced, but there is no firm release date yet, as the programmer Manfred Jaider is not updating the progress of NHC on a regular basis. I'll let you know when it is due as soon as I get to know it.

Thank you. What extra info do you need? I'm running WIndows 7 Ultimate as the Administrator

Install the program and look what it says under the info tab and link "Show computer hardware details" in Section "Product - Name". I assume it's something along the line M5550-R3 or something similar. Basically, what it comes down to is this.
Download this package (I've already pre-modified the file names to Alienware.xml and Alienware.cs, which is necessary):http://www.filedropper.com/alienware-acpifiles

Extract the files and then open Alienware.xml with a text editor and replace the data in this (or any other referring to AMILO XI 15*) line:

<Model name="AMILO Xi 1526" location="PRODUCT" class="XI1546" file="Alienware.cs" />

with the "info tab product-name" given for your model.

It should then look something like this:

<Model name="M5550-R3" location="PRODUCT" class="XI1554" file="Alienware.cs"/> or something similar, depending on your actual product name.

Then save the file and put both files (*.xml and *.cs) into the ACPI folder in the NHC program subdirectory. Then restart the program. ACPI should now be configured. Enable ACPI control system in the ACPI tab and you are all set to adjust the fan speed manually (Show ACPI control system details).
Use manual fan speed option. Choose speed 3 and NHC will fake an ACPI temperature of 94°C and force your fan to run full speed.
Should also work on the M5750 by the way as they share the same mainboard.

Will this also work with an M17 with vista home 64. My gpu fan runs at like 30% at all times, 33% is the max i have seen it.

I don't think so. The script is specifically for the Uniwill Barebones P53IN0 and the bigger 17" sister model. I think your M17 is an Arima right?

lol no clue as far as arima is concerned. I more or less just want to increase fan speed as it sets at 30% regaurdless of what I do. I guess I should have been more specific as to what I was asking, sorry for that.

Hi,

Thanks for the files. Finally had time to install today....got ACPI to enable, but the fan control isn't working for me. I get
"Notebook fan (not working)" message, and I can't change any of the manual flags :/

Any ideas?

Thanks again for all your help.

That's strange. Never heard of this message before.
Where does it say "Notebook fan not working"?
In the ACPI settings page?
Can you enable the Acpi system control debugger
and check the readouts there?
Do the other ACPI functions work,
or could you try automatic fan control?

Did you put the checkmark in manual fan control?
Where exactly is the "not working" message?
Can't see it, or am I blind ;-) ?

O.K. Thats the problem here. You assigned the ACPI module to several different
script paragraphs in the cs file. Delete all lines in the xml, leaving only this one in:

<?xml version="1.0"?>
<Alienware>
<Model name="m5500i-R3" location="PRODUCT" class="XI1546" file="Alienware.cs" />
</Alienware>

That's what it is supposed to look like. Then you have to close NHC and you have to delete the Alienware.dll in the ACPI directory created by NHC for the ACPI module.
It will be created again upon restart.
Then everything should work just fine.

I just made the changes, it still reports "not working" after a re-start the way you described.
post #19 of 60
Are you sure you deleted the alienware.dll?
I suppose NHC is still working with the old dll and not a new one.
Otherwise I'd be at my wit's end.

Or try setting the xml to <Model name="m5500i-R3" location="PRODUCT" class="XI1554" file="Alienware.cs" /> delete the dll as described above.
