Is there a trick to force fan full speed? M5500i-r3? - Page 2

post #21 of 60
Thread Starter
Thanks. I just tried with XI1554 and now get a message that ACPI isn't configured for my system, so I'll switch back to the previous version.

Strange. Maybe I can trace a different version of the cs script which works for
the m5550...

Mabe you can find a solution there for your problem.

@all.

is there a final fix to this problem? Visionaryuser's files are no longer available as a download.

I have a M5500i-R3 using a CoreDuo T2400 and a Nvidia Go7600. NHC reports ACPI not yet configured for this system.

I would very much like to have the .cs and .xml files as a download to try fix the CPU fan activation. This is currently at full power when CPU reaches 57'C. But the GPU is often over 80'C at this point. The fan then shifts to medium speed after 30 seconds at full. I'd like the fan to be at medium speed when cpu is at 40'C which would not be too loud at all.

Please help.

I'm considering a GPU upgrade and copper mod to follow if this ACPI fix works.

Thank you

It's Sunday - visionaryuser comes by often enough to reply to your post soon.

Grab them from here and also download the latest NHC version from here:
http://www.pbus-167.com/nhc/nhc.htm#anchor_download
Then put the files in the ACPI folder of the NHC directory.

Please note that I made some minor adjustments to make the script work
on the m5550, but I can't guarantee that it will work from scratch, so please give
feedback in case of problems.

@ visionaryuser

thank you for the files. They're both in the ACPI folder of NHC 2.4.3. The ACPI control system now has the 'manufacturer' field filled but nothing else. See pic.

Am I correct that NHC is a non-install, direct running .exe? Simply run it from it's folder with administrator rights?

What next? do I need to modify the .xml file to show more fields such as product, file class, author? Yours just displays this:

<?xml version="1.0"?>
<Alienware>
<Model name="m5500i-R3" location="PRODUCT" class="m5500i-R3" file="Alienware.cs" />
</Alienware>

Yeah, I goofed the editing. Open the *.cs file with notepad and try replacing everything in the *.cs file that says AMILO_PI_1556 with m5500i-R3.
Also delete the dll file in the ACPI subfolder.

no success by changing all AMILO_PI_1556 with m5500i-R3. What about the .xml information as my previous post?

The .cs currently shows:
//
// - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
// N o t e b o o k H a r d w a r e C o n t r o l A C P I D L L
// - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
// for FUJITSU_SIEMENS Computers
//
// This file is provided "as is" with no expressed or implied warranty.
// The authors accepts no liability for any damage/loss of business that

//
// Last Update: 15 December 2010
//
public static class Alienware
{

#region Notebook Fujitsu Siemens AMILO Xi 1554 : class m5500i-R3
//
// class author: tapodufeu@free.fr
// class version: v1.0
// info: also Works with 1526 an 1554 (because some "if" exist in the ACPI, so I guess acpi is the same for those models).
//
public static class m5500i-R3
-----------------------------------------
etc.

Should anything be changed in the heading of the .cs?

There was only an application called iasl in the acpi subfolder. I deleted everything, re-downloaded and started fresh. No success, only displays Alienware as the manufacturer.

Do you edit with c++ or whatever?

Thank you for your assistance.

XML info should be correct. You can verify that with CPU-Z.
What does it say under the Hardware / Hardware Control page?
Can you select m5500i-R3 from the list, like I can choose Amilo_PI_1556?
post #31 of 60
From the drop down menu in Hardware, I found alienware and m5500i-R3. The ACPI Control System Status still shows 'Author' missing and I've attached the txtfile showing you the error produced and dumped in the ACPI folder.

Once the professional version purchased, do you think now that I'll be able to control the fan by setting the cpu temp at a false high reading?

Thank you
post #32 of 60
You don't need the professional version for fan control to function.
Also the author field is not required. I don't know whether this fixed the cause of the the error , but please try out this file:

Please note that I just updated the file link again.
Everything should work now.

You can just zip the file and attach it in your post

Thought so, but haven't figured out the right icon yet to do so

"Go Advanced" then the paper clip icon

Oh yeah, tried that but for some reason the adblock script I'm running on Opera is keeping this function from working, now I remember...
I'll attach them with Firefox as soon as I get the confirmation that the files function the way they should...

error! see pic.

Cannot find the product class m5500i-r3 in the .dll file.

I delete the .dll, close the program and try again... still the same error code.

Any other thoughts? I want to simply false read the temperature sensor to bring the fan on early! Maybe a hardware fix would work --> connect the cpu thermometer to the GPU (GPU idles at 70-80). That's a big temperature range I know but that's the reality. The GPU actually heats the cpu which causes the fan to come on at around CPU 57'C.

Can you please read out the exact model name with CPU-Z under the mainboard tab?
We'll get this working, no worries.
