How can I save and reload existing BIOS on a T61?

Thread Starter
Have a T61 with a back level BIOS version. Plan to upgrade HD from 250GB to 500GB. If I have to upgrade BIOS want to save existing BIOS in case any problems with new BIOS. Lenovo site does not have existing level available for download.
  1. Downloaded 2 different versions of WINPHLASH and tried to save BIOS, Got message that existing BIOS location is wrong. Don't understand this as I have saved and loaded BIOS many times on other motherboards. Neither version of this utility came with any instructions.
  2. Am I using the right utility? If not what should I download to save my BIOS? There is reference to 2 different forms of BIOS in this Thinkpad when I use the Thinkvantage utility to check BIOS levels. What are the 2 different forms and how do you back up and restore both of them?

I didn't know you could save an existing bios.

Many manufacturers allow the back-up of the previous BIOS before flashing it. I doubt that Lenovo offers this option. And unless they make available a tool for doing it, it will be a tough nut to crack.

cheers ...
