Aspire 1410 not sleeping/waking properly

I got this little 11" notebook in August 09 and it hasn't given me any problems until the past month. I've had Windows 7 64bit pro on it with no issues.

For the past few months, whenever I close the lid, the fan and hdd stays on but the screen goes black. It gets extremely hot many times. I really didn't have issues waking the computer up and closing the lid again so everything shuts off properly.

Lately, I haven't had any luck waking the computer back up. The screen stays dark but the fan/hdd keeps functioning. I've tried every single key and along with the power button but it still stays dark. I upgraded the bios but that didn't help. I figured Windows 7 got corrupted but I did a reinstall last night and the same thing happens on a fresh install.

Other than setting my power settings to do nothing when the lid is closed or power button is pressed, I ran out of options.

It really sucks that this started happening right after the 1 year mark. Anyone have any suggestions on what I can try?

Its possible, that when you closed the lid and packed it away, that the sleep/hibernate did not occur and kept running, extreme heat and burned something out...I never use sleep or hibernate because of that...only takes a few more secs to shut down regular way...have you tried hooking up to an external monitor if possible..to see if it might be the lcd..if you do not get a pic on the external, you might possibly have burned out the GPU (vid chip)
