Question about Quad Core on SP8120

I'm looking at this laptop, with the default config except I added the blu-ray reader drive.

But I'm a little worried about the quad core cpu... Its only 1.73 ghz. I understand it can boast to 2.93 single, but most new apps/games are at least dual core ready and the i5 have faster dual core cpus out of the box.

How fast does the quad core run in dual core mode? I heard some where it will run at like 2.5ghz/dual core mode 1.73/Quad Core mode, and 2.93/Solo Core mode. Can anyone confirm?

I can't confirm anything about the stepping speed of a quad core CPU; and whilst it's true that games are still doing better in many cases on a dual core system than on a quad - newer games would play well on a quad core, the way of the future.

With the comp in question, you should be fine for few years to come.
