4028GZ USB drivers

Thread Starter
The 40 GB hard drive on my laptop died recently and
I replaced it with another 40 GB IDE. Windows XP
installation went well but now the usb ports no longe
see flash drives.
I was able to use a usb wireless mouse as long as I
install it before boot. But no go for memory. If I move the
usb mouse once XP is running it goes deal.

I tried downloading all drivers suggested by Gateway
for my serial number but I see no USB driver.

The DEVICE MANAGER shows no problems with the
USB Hubs or controllers.

What can I do?

USB ports do not need driver. The USB controller driver should be part of the OS.

Did you install the chipset driver? What is the XP version you are using? SP2? SP3?

usb

Yes I did the hp driver for the chipset.
I brought the system up to SP3 yeesterday
and still have same problem.
I notice that the mouse usb led works until the
XP starting screen is scanning. then out.

I will try installing the chipset driver again.

I am able to use the PCMCIA card with 2USB
adapter and download USB memory sticks.

Yeah, try the chipset driver out and hope that it would work. If not then there is a very good chance that the USB ports are being zapped This does happen quite often in some old models and Windows OS - XP in particular. I had to re-touch the soldering spots on my USB ports at one time.

Worked great.
Not sure why it worked this time but I got the
message "USB HUB FOUND"
when the program was loading.
Maybe it was service pack 3

Thanks

You meant SP3 was the issue?
