Now we get somewhere

I would suggest that you try removing and re-seat the followings:

- keyboard
- CMOS battery.

ok little confusedas to why reseating the keyboard would help and i was told by the computer shop that it is not good to remove the cmos battery?
Wild guesses /tricks to try out. ACER (with Vista) is notorious for being out of whack when re-installing OS anew where certain drivers are not found.

Some of the threads here in the Section mentioning re-seating the keyboard could have solved the issue with battery not being recognized. CMOS re-seating is a bit extravagant but it is always worth a shot when everything fails.

Any better reasons other than "not good" from that computer shop?

the fella said it can cause thing to not function properl like the touch panel and fingerprint reader not sure if he was being straight with me he had the machine for 4 days and could not get it to recognise the battery

I personally never heard, nor experiencing, touch panel and fingerprint reader issue when replacing CMOS battery.

Mind you, it takes some work to get to the CMOS battery

When I bought my 8930 almost 2 years ago, it was written somewhere 8930G (do not remember where), but in the instruction manual, and on the comp. it is just listed as 8930. So, 8930G or 8930 = same thing I suppose.

Let's go back one step. Your battery was being tested out and worked on another 8930 - so how about make a snap shot of that other system, install it and tweak it afterward with your personal settings?
