Providing that your recovery partition is instact - you can try using some 3rd party software to recover and save it where you can access it. This would cost more than what Acer wanted from you.
Another option is to buy the recovery disks direct from Acer.
Have you tried with another hard drive and an OS new installation to see if the issue with the battery not being recognized goes away?
