Is there a way to recover the driver recovery DVD?

I have a HP6910P laptop that I need to rebuild. I have the HP Windows XP Professional SP2 disc but I don't have the driver recovery DVD.

So I installed Windows SP2, then subsequently upgraded to SP3 (because Office Plus 2010 needs it). I went to the HP support site for Hp6910P and there are many drivers there and I don't know which ones I need.

I installed a few I know I need, but some I am not sure. For example I have a CAD software but when I look at the graphics a "circle" looks like an ellipse. May be the screen is "stretched"?

When I plug in my external hard drive it reads it fine, but when I pull it out I get a "delay write failure" error.

I am not able to put the notebook to "standby" manually. I can either log out or shutdown, the standby button is disabled. I was not getting sound so I just installed the ADI SoundMax driver.

I am sure there are some drivers I am missing, but I don't want to just install EVERYTHING without knowing what they are.

Then a friend of mine has a HP Elite driver recovery DVD. The disc says APPLICATION AND DRIVER RECOVERY DVD for distribution only with a HP or Compaq PC, Series:8530. Can I use this DVD for my HP 6910P?

Any other suggestions?

Download Everest Home and run it. It will tell you pretty much which devices you have on the comp, use that to pick up the appropriate drivers.

Regarding the "standby" issue - check to be sure that the computer properties in device manager is set to ACPI first.

cheers ...

Thanks. I ran it and it generated a long report. I used it to pick out some obvious drivers I need. Still there are a bunch of drivers I am not sure about.

For example, this one specifically:

Essential System Updates for Microsoft Windows XP (Service Pack 2)

I have already upgraded to SP3 because MS Office Plus 2010 requires it. Now do I need the HP system update which is for SP2?

Thanks in advance,

If the screen is stretched, you need to install the graphics driver for your notebook, and then set the resolution to the native resolution of the monitor.
