Detect your laptop hardware

Hi,

Is there a utility that will tell you what hardware your machine has installed? I’ve tried ‘driver detective’ it’s OK but, you need to have .net set up. This is time consuming if you’re setting up a number of different laptops

What I’m after is a utility that tells you what type network card you have, the manufacturer, so then you can surf up the manufacturer and get the drivers…

Thanks in advance

I use Piriform's Speccy. It's free, quick to install and run, and will give you the kind of information you're looking for. For more in-depth hardware information, you can use Everest or Sandra, but those programs are not free.

This is OK, but it doesn't tell you about obsure hardware that ends up as 'Unknown device' on Device Manager and it takes dozens of downloads to resolve.

Everest seems to gove more info on those annoying and useless pieces of hardware

True. As I said earlier, Everest is more in-depth and comprehensive. You just have to pay for it if you use it beyond the trial period.

If you go to Control Panel, click Performance Information, click Advanced Tools, then click View advanced System Information. Seems to give a lot of info there....
