Asus G1S - Direct Flash Lights on Solid

Thread Starter
Hey all,

I've tried all the versions of the Direct Console utility I could find and even email Asus support, but I was wondering if it is possible to have the Direct Flash lights on solid, rather than flash? I have tried the console versions 1.3 through 1.5, and Asus support suggested I try 2.0, but it didn't seem to be compatible. Is there something I can tweak in the Direct Console to make the adjustment, or is the flashing hard wired?

Thanks for any help,
Adam

We have been trying it for ages on the G71 in the office - no go. One can turn some of them off, but as far as the lighs being on solid Maybe that's why they call it Direct Flash

Yeah, I was kind of thinking that it wouldn't be doable. It's good to know I'm not the only one trying though. I just wish I had a little more control that just On/Off.

Well hopefully that ASUS can work on that eventually

so, i know this is off the original topic, but when i upgrade to windows 7 and do a clean install, can i set up the hard drive so it is only one partition? unlike the factory settings of having a C: and D:?
Sure you can. But do you want to? Having a recovery partition can be beneficial you know. I usually remove the orginal drive, get myself a new one and then blast it off clean from there (in case I want to sell it later on )

Great idea about replacing the drive. That's what I usually do with my desktop and then throw the original drive into an external enclosure. I never thought about doing it with my laptop, but that sounds like the way to go.

Will this one work?

I like the speed and the cache, but I really dont know what interface the G1S uses.

While I'm at it, I might as well max out the RAM to take advantage of the new 64-bit OS.

Both choices look solid to me.

Will do! Are you the only one who reads the Asus forum here? haha

While I'm at it, so I can do a pre and post install test, what is good benchmark software to test overall system performance? I use Cinebench, but it's mostly OpenGL and CPU oriented, is there one out there that will take into account the RAM and new hard drive?
I am not the only one that read ASUS sub-forum, or any others. I just like to post back when I am around that's all.

3D Performance test is a good tool that covers pretty much all hardware within the notebook. You can use the trial version of it with no issue.

Alright, so a quick review after installing all my new hardware and software.

I ended up going with these parts simple because I get free shipping from Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ef=oss_product

I also did a clean install of Windows 7 64-bit Professional.

Overall, I am pleased with the upgrade. I think the biggest difference is the 7200rpm hard drive. I haven't gotten a chance to game on it yet, but I'm sure loading times will be faster. Also, the hard drive is much quieter than the original 5400rpm. Now if I could just get the rear fan on this thing to be quiet, it would be near silent

I ran a couple different benchmarks, NovaBench and Cinebench.

Windows Experience Index
Vista 32 with 3gb Ram and 5400rpm HDD
4.8

Windows 7 64 with 4gb Ram and 7200rpm HDD

5.8

NovaBench:
Vista 32 with 3gb Ram and 5400rpm HDD
Ram Score: 91
CPU Score: 220
Graphics Score: 92
Hardware Score: 15
Overall Score: 418

Windows 7 64 with 4gb Ram and 7200rpm HDD
Ram Score: 110
CPU Score: 223
Graphics Score: 90
Hardware Score: 23
Overall Score: 446

Cinebench:
Vista 32 with 3gb Ram and 5400rpm HDD
CPU: 1.28
OpenGL: 9.82

Windows 7 64 with 4gb Ram and 7200rpm HDD

CPU: 1.25
OpenGL: 10.20

so who wants to explain to me the way that the benchmark system works? i filled out my system and added my windows index experience with screenshot and everything, but now when i go into look at it, it seems i have to start over and add my system again.

also, why is there nowhere to put in a PCMark Vantage score?
