Acer 4736Z chipset, GL40 or GM45?

Thread Starter
My laptop is 4736Z, CPU: Intel T4200. I remember that the 4736z uses GL40.
But I checked my laptop with CPU-Z, SiS Sandra and EVEREST. All of them reported that the chipset is GM45.
CPU-Z: Intel GM45/ GM47
SiS Sandra: Acer GM45 Mobile Controller Hub
Everest: Intel Cantiga GM45
Now I intend to update the memory. Is there anybody who successfully installed 1 x 4G stick in the 4736z?

Thanks.

Update:
I replaced the 1x 1G stick with a CORSAIR 4GB CM3X4GSD1066. It works perfectly. Now I have 6G memory in the system. Thanks guys.

4736Z was advertised with GL40 chipset but many of the delivered models came with GM45 chipset (which is better in my opinion).

System can support up to 4GB ram, some chances that it can support 1 x 4GB stick. But seeing as a dual channel configuration the best combination would be 2 x 2GB.

Still you can always take the notebook to the store and see if one 4GB stick works before committing to buy.

Thanks for the reply. I have installed the Windows 7, 64 Bit in this laptop. The os should not be a problem. Currently there are 1 x 1G and 1 x 2G memory stick installed. I intend to replace the 1 x 1G with a 1 x 4G stick.

Is the Corsair Value Select 1 x 4GB a quality memory stick?

Crucial.com says a max of 2GBs per slot with 64bit OS
Each memory slot can hold DDR3 PC3-8500, DDR3 PC3-10600 with a maximum of 2GB per slot

Further note, if you are putting n the 10600 and the laptop was initially fitted with 8500 speed modules, (the 2GBs you are keeping), the machine will run at the 8500 speed (always runs with the lowest)

Very nice. Would you put up a CPU-Z screen for us to share? It would be great for other members. A screen shot of the Windows System dialog would also be great.

The first screen when you open up Windows-System. It will tell you how much ram Windows see.

(btw REP for info sharing!)
