Anyone with a m5790? Help please.

hi i have a m5790 that's broke but not sure what's causing it.
the problem is when i switch it on it restarts all the time it will try to boot then switches of then tries again with nothing on the screen no beeps.
I removed my x1900 and tried to boot it again this time the screen goes grey and the laptop beeps then the screen goes blank but the power stays on.

Is there anyone with a m5790 that could try and boot with out there graphics in and see if the same happens?
Im not sure if its my x1900 or the motherboard that's gone

And also what cards can i fit in a m5790 if i have to replace it.
cheers.

Tried it pulled them out put different ram in from a different laptop same thing happens

Keep restarting at boot normally means issue with RAM, hard drive and (worst case scenario) main board

Have you tried just using one slot of ram (at a time) with different ram modules?

hi yeah i have tried that. same thing blank screen no beep cutting power and trying again.
with x1900 out it boots with grey screen beeps then blank screen with no power cutting but i think its restarting over and over just with power on. i just dont want to go buy a motherboard if it turns out to be the x1900 same the other way round.

That's a catch-22 for sure. Let's see if some members can confirm it for you. Sort of last resort, I would want to bake that card

cheers for the help.
Also anyone know if a geforce 8600m gt will work in a m5790?

cheers

Yep, it does. As the notebook shares the same barebone and specifications with the Fujitsu Siemens Xi1554, I can confirm that the 8600M GT works. You might have to dremel the heatsink a bit, but that's really not a biggie.
You also want to replace the thermal pad (they are crap imo) on the core with a copper shim and thermal grease to lower the temps and prolong the cards life to the max. But other than it's a pretty easy swap, Bios 2.06 recommended.

I managed to get a go 6600 128mb to put in and it boots!
but the pic on the screen is really bad even the bios screen looks all blurred. i flashed bios m5750_m5790_Bios1.19W still the same is there any other bios i can try well if its that thats causing it.

edit..

i found http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/top..._1#entry118048

same problem as me i think. he says about flashing m5550 bios 2.06 on a m5790 is that possible?

edit 2... i flashed 2.06 no joy still really nasty looking again same with 2.07. In device manager it just shows up as standard vga graphics adapter. it also says code 12 cannot find enough free resources that it can use.
im stuffed. anyone know what it could be??

Can you take a picture of the screen so we can see what you're seeing.

I have a 5750 with an X800, but i haven't experienced any problems.

I tend to think that the LCD itself is failing. Go for the inverter and review the cable connection first.

We were talking about it until OP mentioned this special case found on the net.

I personally still feel that it is a failing LCD issue - but it is worth checking out alternatives before going into replacing the LCD.
