iPAD 2

Apple is preparing some surprises for the iPad.

Really, no one in the right mind would think that Mr Jobs is sitting quietly with the latest success

New patents for iPad were unveiled (leaked) by the Chinese organization responsible for their submissions. The first refers to the appearance of a second dock connector to position the iPad in landscape mode on a charging stand or even a docking station.

The second patent highlights the lower left corner of the Apple Tablet without specifying what its function is all about. Accessible on both the touch screen on the chassis, this corner could well serve as a shortcut to launch applications (?).

Of course, there is nothing to say that these changes will be integrated into the next version of the iPad. It also is rumored that the next version of the iPad will be unveiled in the first quarter of next year - 2011.

As a reminder, the iPad was presented January 27, 2010 by Steve Jobs before being sold in the United States April 3, 2010; so the arrival of a second version early next year is therefore not to taken lightly.

Urgh! I wish, they would marry Wacom. This form factor, a Wacom pen, artist, writer, note takers heaven. I like my iPad. I don't like finger drawing and writing notes with my finger. Touch gestures are natural, writing and drawing with your finger isn't. At least its not for me lol.

Pogo Sketch stylus pen can replace the fingers nicely. Not great replacing a full blown pen like in Wacom, yet.

As much as my iPad ticks me off, I'm addicted to the form factor. I'll probably sell off mine and get the new one. Not for the camera mind you, but the new rumored display. I find the colors and viewing angles awesome on the ipad. The sharpness and contrast of text across varying Apps leave much to be desired.

I have bad eyes, and text sharpness and contrast is a much desired improvement.

How does it tick you off?

Apple machines always have the best text and sharpness presentation for me, improvement is always welcome. Maybe all apps should be put through Apple internal QA process.

*Laughs* Well, I decided I wanted to write something, then I spent the next hour, trying to find a program to organize my notes, which was the best to use as a word processor, how to get the file off my machine..just different stuff like that ends up being frustrating to me. I spend more time looking for work a rounds sometimes then I do using it.

I've spent more money on trying to find a note taking app I like that I could have bought Microsoft OneNote stand alone for my PC. Unfortunately I don't think you can get refunds if the App sucks unless it just doesn't work. Maybe I should check on that one.

I do like it obviously since I'm ready to buy another one, but I'm a gadget junky. I would like to see it get to a point where its not just crappy little apps good at one thing and I get full software, but its a new platform so we'll see.

The display is great as far as viewing angles and color goes. Text is not sharp as it could be. That new Retina display is suppose to solve that. Its not bad mind you, but I have bad eye site anyway, so I really notice anything thats off on a screen.

Touch experience is awesome, If Apple would add a Wacom type digitizer to this to still the pen/artist market, Microsoft would be in far more trouble of people defecting from Windows.

Thanks, I have a Pogo. It was my favorite iPad pen until I replaced it with the Targus stylus sold at Best Buy. Its a bit smoother and the tip doesn't seem to get mushy over time like the Pogo.

Great tip - I read some more about this Targus Stylus and heard more great review on it ... cheaper than the Pogo as well.

More leaks confirming what we suspected and rumored so far ...

A Chinese-language Economy Daily News (EDN) report citing industry sources claims Apple will add five new features to the iPad 2: video phone, better mobility, USB port, new display technology and 3-axis gyroscopes.

The video-phone feature (probably FaceTime) is expected to benefit Apple iPad's webcam suppliers, while iPad 2 may adopt smaller size panels featuring thinner glass. The USB feature will allow the device to be more connection friendly, while Apple's "Retina Display" technology will enhance image and color output performance. The 3-axis gyroscopes will enhance gaming, added the paper.

Well dropbox solved a lot of my problems with saving stuff from ipad and sharing it with my pc or Mac. I got to say I love Dropbox. Its what iDisc should have been without the 99 dollar a year fee.

I need to look into this since I am guilty of what the video was showing at the start - USB stick as a companion. For quick file sharing I use Drop.io extension for Firefox.

By the way Happy belated Birthday Synergi.

. Chimei Innolux and Cando are joining Winte, Sintex Phototronics and TPK Touch Solutions in the list of iPAD 2G providers. They are talking about pushing 6 Mio units per month instead of the current 4 Mio per trimester. Furthermore, there is no mentioning of small iPad or 7" even

Apple is expected to release three versions of iPad 2, supporting either or a combination of Wi-Fi, UMTS and CDMA, for 2011 with mass production to start as early as the later half of January. Apple will ship about 500,000-530,000 units to channels in January with shipment ratio of Wi-Fi, UMTS and CDMA models at 3:4:3, according to industry sources, citing upstream component makers.

The sources pointed out that about 60-65% of current iPad shipments are 3G models, indicating that consumers prefer models that are able to connect to the Internet all the time, therefore Apple is aiming to work even more closely with telecom carriers by offering more wireless solutions for iPad 2 to satisfy market demand.

In addition to wireless functions, Apple is also working on strengthening the iPad 2's anti-smudge and anti-reflective treatments in order to compete against Kindle and attract more consumers, the sources noted.

Since Apple's upstream supply chain is estimated to ship about 16 million iPads in 2010, the sources expects about 2-3 million iPad units of inventory will remain in the channel rolling over into 2011. Since Apple will gradually stop the production of iPad after January and launch iPad 2 by the end of the first quarter or the beginning of the second, the remaining iPad inventory should be able to satisfy demand during that period of time.

As for iPad 2, the sources estimate that the device's shipments in 2011 will reach 40 million units, accounting for 65-75% of the global tablet PC market.
