omg... look at the specs...even has 9700 Pro. Finally Sony did it! but I have a feeling that this baby will cost a lot of $$$.

2.0GHz Pentium M Dothan processor, 80 GB 5400RPM Hard Drive, 17" Wide Screen UXGA, ATI 9700 Radeon 128MB Graphics processor and a thin yet wide design.

everything looks good about it for me, but the wide screen...

does it have xbrite?
Not bad.

It's good news that hopefully means other manufacturers are also coming out with completely new designs for the release of Dothan, rather than just slapping the new chip in their old Banias models.

dothan was meant to be a pop in replacement like that tho?

it retainsthe same pin design so no new motherboard is needed + uses less power so the thermal cooling properies do not need to be changed

It would be a crime if it didn't. But I can't tell yet, there's no official word on this model yet (nothing on Sony Japan anyway).

new designs = good

Especially when they have friken 17" 1900x1200 WUXGA (maybe Xbrite) screens!

Oh, this was not mentioned in the Notebook Review article, but I think what the original translated article says is that there are actually 3 new models with this similar design (sort of like Powerbooks):

13.3" Vaio S1
15.4" Vaio A1
17" Vaio A17

Come on. You've gotta assume the smaller one is lower spec (just like with Powerbooks).

so what do you think, give me some estimates on its price and avability in Europe, Usa.

Uh, expensive. I have no idea, really, until the official word comes out of some country.

The most expensive Vaio I see on SonyStyle right now is $3199: Sony VAIO Z1WAMP3 (PCG-Z1WAMP3), for 1.7GHz Banias, SXGA, 1GB RAM, 80GB drive, DVD-RW and ATI MOBILITY RADEON 16MB (!) .

You can bet that 17" WUXGA isn't gonna be cheap, so add a couple hundred(?) on top of that price...PLUS the price difference between the current 1.7GHz Banias and the 2.0GHz Dothan.
wow i didnt thought it would be THAT expensive.

Well, I was guessing conservatively (high). I'm sure there will be lower spec versions at lower prices (lower res. screen, slower CPU, 64MB GPU, etc.). For reference, the range of prices on the current PCG-Z1 models is $2199 to $3199 (a thousand bucks). If Sony allows a lot of custom options, you might be able to configure a 17" for under $3000.

I say kudos! to sony, I cannot wait to see the 13.3 inch model and particularly what the Centrino 2 package will due to the TR line.
