Just making sure. That is what I assumed too, but then, I read in amazement the PDF specs that make no mention of bluetooth on one the model that will be available from retailers, but mention it as standard on the one available BTO from sonystyle.com.

Any ideas on the earlier question regarding Sony resellers? I haven't found very many, and none that allow you to config one.

Has anybody seen this:

I think it was already discussed.. and if I am correct, somebody called Sony and was told through the phone that no 128mb.

Well I just talked to a Sony rep. on chat and I was told that the once you buy the notebook, you can then upgrade to the 128mb. I was told that the instructions are in the manuel to do the upgrade. I then asked why on the website said it has a Radeon 9700, I was told it was an error on their part, and will be fixed. Maybe someone can ask again because she seemed not to understand some things. Thanks

Somehow I doubt you can upgrade the video memory yourself. They were probably thinking system memory.
Well I am not saying your wrong, your probably right, but thats what she told me. I also qustioned her.Maybe some one can try asking again.
So far, at least 3 people have called and confirmed (and posted) that it only comes with 64MB. I think it's safe to assume this is correct, unless we hear otherwise from someone who has actually purchased one with 128MB (which seems less and less likely).

is the video memory built into a video card that is plugged into the mobo?

or is the video memory built into the mobo itself?

this would answer the question

in my Inspiron 8200 the video card was removable and upgradeable if another fit the form factor

There's no word of 2.0GHz in the near future. When people start getting their hands on them, we'll see just how upgradeable they are.

For everyone who was wondering, the 40GB drive in this unit is the 2.5" (9.5mm high) Hitachi DK23FA-40 4,200RPM with 2MB cache.
I would say we'll be lucky if the 60GB is 5,400 RPM.
i have contacted soy europe, and they said taht all disks are 4200 rpm that sucks ass.
hmmm that does suck

did you specifically ask about the 60gb?
yes i did.
Ya i just asked as well... that alexandra is quick with the emails ;p

60gb is 4200rpm

max video card is 64mb radeon 9700

from the images the HDD does not look modular... so...

WTF sony pass along the cost to consumers but offer them wht they want! a decent speed HDD

edit

just checked users manual... HDD definately not modular and no visible way to get at it

only 1 access panel on bottom for memory

guess we wont be upgrading this 4200 rpm HDD

You can BTO 5400 rpm ones on the sony site--why o why can't you BTO 7200 rpm ones is beyond me.

It will be replaceable if you're clever enough I can almost guarentee you, but what a PITA... You can't imagine some of the surgery people have succesfully done (such as adding bluetooth) to the TR series.

PLC: could you share the link for the manual. I dread surfing the SonyUSA website, it must be hosted be an employee at his/her home computer via dialup.

Never mind, found it: http://ciscdb.sel.sony.com/perl/mode...l?mdl=VGNA170P

pulsewidth, do you have a link to the TR BT mod?

Thanks all for the info.

This is the only thing holding me back from getting the A series. Hopefully, when September comes around they will have upgraded their hard drives.

As someone already posted, you can do a custom order with an 80gb 5400rpm drive. I believe because of the higher density, it should perform on par with a 7200rpm drive.
