Getting a gaming notebook

So I've recenetly decided to abandon the comfort of console games and switch to notebook gaming, purely because I'm moving to another university next year and cannot take a console plus an hd t.v with me wherever I go. I've been to have a look at the new gaming notebooks and have been blown away at the changes since the last time I checked (10 months ago). 1gb of dedicated vram. You have no idea how much that shocked me lol Anyway I'm looking into getting a notebook thats got some serious power but doesnt require some serious money, are there any standout laptops that you guys can suggest I have a look at? Il be mainly playing CoD MW2, first person shooters, mmorpgs, fallout and stuff. The asus G5 series looks quite cool
Thanks

For performance value, you started in the right place. Asus' gaming notebooks tend to be very good for the price. What are your limits on price and preferences on notebook size?

ASUS was ahead with the G73 and now it is back with the latest G53 (2D and 3D version)- in regard to very good price/performance ratio!

cheers ...

hey! well i'm in NZ atm so im thinking around 1000 U.S? theres a asus G71GX up for grabs for 1200 NZD which im guessing is 700 US. I'm really not fussed with the size of the notebook to be honest, i'm fine with a 15" or 17" screen.

Thanks for your help!

That's got a previous generation CPU but might still work well for you since the current G series lineup seems like it may be out of your price range.

Just had a look at best buy and ebay at the asus laptops I'm a bit confused on a few things though. The G51jx, g51vx and the G60 series. I'm having a bit of trouble working out which is the better laptop, had a look at a few reviews and some people are unhappy with the g51vx over the jx model? Also still trying to work out if the g60 series is better lol

thanks for your help

With Asus notebooks, the first letter indicates the series (G is gaming) then the numbers indicate screen size (40s or 80s means 14-14.9", 50s means 15-15.9", 60s means 16-16.9", 70s means 17-17.9"), and the following letters indicate generation and graphics (J means Intel Core i5/i7 with dedicated graphics [current gen], V means Intel Core 2 with dedicated graphics[previous gen])

Basically, the ones with a J suffix are based on the most recent tech and so are generally speaking better.
