unidentified network

trying to connect to wifi network, comes up unidentified network, only gives me limited access to network. Try to set up connection, enter the 10 digit wep key and hit OK. Says that info does not match network requirements. Go back and check wep key number entered, is now 8 digits and won't display characters so I can't tell what wep key is. ????? 3 other computers are using wep key I am trying to enter, and am using wep key assigned to router. Gateway W340UA, vista 32 bit.

Double check the key and enter it again. Some things can be easy to mistake, such as the letter O and the number 0.

The 8 asterisks are just Vista's way of representing a password. They have no relation to the actual length of the password you entered.

edit: you also probably need to type in the network name (SSID) in order to have access.

Aren't the WEP keys hexadecimal? That means that there can't be any O, just numbers 0-9 and leters A-F.

Or am I wrong?

yeah, sorry 'bout that. I was thinking 32 not 16.
